Traditional Calabrian Soap

This soap was cooked in cauldrons using olive oil, animal fat and other oils. It was then turned out into wooden tables and cut into big blocks ready for use. 

This soap was made and used for many generations but with so-called improvements and mass production convenience grew, this tradition has been all but lost. 

There are many stories of using this rustic soap washing clothes in the mountain steams in Italy and drying washing in bright sunlight. 

This soap may be used in the laundry, to wash dishes or add to many a hoodoo spell as a replacement for Castile soap. 
It may be cut into smaller chunks, grated & dissolved. 

Measured by weight, this is a sustainable, eco friendly product from a bygone era.
