In antiquity, a relic is an object or article of religious or spiritual significance from the past.
Relic bottles hold the physical remains or personal effects of a person to preserve their memory for the purpose of veneration as a tangible memorial.
“Memento Mori” is Latin for “remember you must die”. In Edwardian/Victorian times it was popular to cut a strand of hair from the deceased and plait or fashion it into a Memento Mori piece of jewellery or relic bottle as a reminder of those who were dear to them.
