Hermes is an Ancient Greek deity of merchants, travellers, thieves, orators and heralds. He is able to move between the mortal and divine realms freely aided by his winged sandals. Hermes plays the role of the “psychopomp” -or “soul guide”- a conductor of souls into the afterlife. In myth, Hermes functions as the emissary and messenger of the gods.
The Caduceus Staff is in association with Hermes, and symbolises peace. It allows messengers to travel without being harmed or stopped.
